Digital respite is the use of digital technologies (such as cameras, the internet and computer games), to provide families with with temporary relief from their daily challenges as a caregiver and connect them with a supportive community.
The concept has been developed as part of several Vichealth funded Victoria University administered projects, including the Avatar Project and Connected Lives.
The benefits of digital respite include;
- Relief for families and caregivers
- Relatively low costs when compared to traditional respite activities
- Engaging and enjoyable for a wide range of participants
- Adaptable to specific individual needs
